Societys Plan or Fate
I recently started working in Downtown Miami. It's a beautiful city with many tall buildings. I ride the Metro-Rail to work, similar to New York's subway system, but it's an above ground train. I was amazed to see how many people use the train to go to downtown. As I got off the train and started to walk across the street to my building I was greeted by people on the street asking for spare change. In fact, it seemed that the more I would walk, the more people asking for change I would see. These people are the homeless of Miami. The office that I work in is on the 26th floor of the building. From the window I can see the ocean, beautiful blue skies, and tall buildings all around. As I look down to the streets I see lots of people walking the side walks of downtown. From up here, they look like small ants. You can't tell the difference between the lawyers, waitresses, or homeless...you just see that their people. How do people end up homeless? Is it just part of life? I'll take it one step further. How is it that some people end up rich in life and others end up with a minimum wage job or on the street? Growing up you always here, you can be what ever you want to be. Some how I can't think of any child saying they want to grow up to be a garbage man, a stock-boy in a supermarket at the age of 40, or a homeless person.
Not everyone can grow up to be a Bill Gates or Donald Trump. I mean, really if we all did then who would take out are garbage or stock the supermarket? Remember the phrase "It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it"? Well, someone has too. If not how would society function? But, does that mean there have to be homeless? Whose problem is the homeless, and not only in downtown Miami, but all around the world? Can the homeless be helped?
